Halloween is nearly here, and it’s one of our favorite time’s of the year.
Unfortunately, it’s also a reason that our dental professionals in Hawthorne, CA have to worry … about tooth decay!
This is why we are sharing a few simple suggestions that can keep you smiling after the candy is gone this year and for many years to come.
1. Make a Plan
Before you begin collecting candy, talk to your kids about what you will do with it. Maybe some of it can be donated, so you don’t have as much temptation sitting around the house. For the candy you do keep, make an agreement about when to eat it and how much to eat. A few pieces after a meal (when saliva is already active) is certainly OK.
2. Have Some Water
Keep a cup of water nearby while you enjoy your candy. The water can help rinse away small pieces that could get stuck on or between your teeth.
3. Keep Up With Oral Care
It’s always important to brush and floss daily. That’s especially true if you have been eating candy. Brushing removes residue from your teeth, and flossing cleans the places that your toothbrush can’t reach. Just remember this: you only need to brush the teeth that you want to keep.
